A grassland is a mostly dry, grassy area with few trees and bushes. Around 1/4 of land area on the Earth is grassland. A specific type of grassland is a savanna. Savanna’s are hot and dry most of the year but with a heavy rainy season. They are often bordered by a rainforest.
When people think of Africa, they often think of the savanna and its seas of grass, herds of elephants and prides of lions. The African savanna covers 2.5 million sq. km and goes through 27 different countries! Click on the map above of the African savanna for more pictures.
