Virtual Tour of Japan

This is a virtual tour of just some of the wonderful destinations in Japan. Your tour will focus on the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. You may travel to any destination whenever you wish by using the navigation tabs on the side of the page. There is also an interactive Google Map embedded on this page that shows the location of each destination. Be prepared to find how Japan cities charm you with their history and culture and amaze you with their modern day way of life.

Exploring

You will use the questions on each destination page to guide you through a journey of images, videos and other resources. Keep a log of your learning and your answers in a Google Doc you have created for this project called Virtual Japan. You will be responsible at the end of your trip for creating an essay describing your adventures and what you have learned.

The Great Tohoku Earthquake

At 14:46 on March 11, 2011 there was a magnitude 9.0 earthquake that occurred off the Northeast coast of Japan. It triggered powerful tsunami waves that reached over 100ft. tall in some areas. The devastation was immense with over 20,000 people dead or missing and the cost to rebuild estimated near $250 billion. The Japanese Red Cross Society has been a large source of aide for those hit by this tragedy. Click the image below to read more about their efforts.
