| Is Sloodle Middleware? | |||||
In "Learning by Doing", Clark Aldrich repeatedly shines a big light on the importance of systems architecture in the planning and development of educational games and simulations (Aldrich, 2005). This systems architecture will typically involve multiple applications, databases, and client-side software used by the student. Sloodle looks to connect an experience between a MMORPG and an open source LMS. A simplified look at a Sloodle-oriented systems architecture is shown in the following figure inspired by Aldrich's architecture model. Where does Sloodle fit into this systems architecture? Sloodle certainly has working components in both the Moodle and Second Life application/database environments. However, what makes Sloodle very unique is that it serves as open-source middleware to connect Second Life with a learning managment system to enhance and complete a learning experience.
