  Is Sloodle a Game Modification?

"In contrast to the game and graphic engines, mods are new content that can overwrite or augment specific aspects of a commercial computer game." (Aldrich, 2005)

So, is Sloodle a modification of Second Life? Philosophically, one could make the argument that any new logic or content qualifies as modification of Second Life because it is open-source, user-built and supports on-the-fly, global game changes. In that spirit, Second Life is modification-driven. However, consider modifications that can have an impact in how the game or simulation is used for educational purposes. There are several elements to Sloodle functionality that certainly extend Second Life as a learning environment, most notably:

Object Functionality Scope
Quiz Chair Dynamically populated with data from LMS database New functionality
Classroom Executes robust authentication logic based on business rules from LMS New functionality
Login Zone Objects update LMS to serve as adaptable/dynamic entry point for students from web-based portal (Moodle classroom) Adaptation of SLurl functionality

These items may become meaningful, education-oriented modifications to standard Second Life functionality.
