The desert biome covers about one-fifth of the Earth's surface. This biome is very hot and dry, with less than 50 cm of rainfall a year. The plants and animals that live in the desert have to be adapted to the hot and dry conditions, which is why there is not much plant life. The most popular plant that grows there is the cactus and that is because it is able to store water inside of it. Some other plants that live there are desert ironwood, joshua tree, palo verde. Animals that are able to live there are coyotes, armadillo lizards, desert tortoises, and thorny devils.
