Mr. Ellis's Netiquette Rules

Netiquette or network etiquette is the proper behavior formed by a social

network in cyberspace. Simply stated, it is a set of rules for behavior in a network

or Internet setting. Whenever you enter a social setting that is unfamiliar to you, there

are usually rules for social behavior that you should become familiar with. In the case of

cyberspace, there are rules for various and different occasions. There are netiquette

rules for email, chat rooms, local networks and there are even guidelines for

administrators.

Becoming familiar with these rules will help you to learn how to communicate better

in cyberspace and will help you follow guide lines set forth by different organizations

such as public schools, colleges, corporations as well as social networks on the

Internet. Even though you may not learn all of the rules of netiquette, becoming familiar with

the most basic of these online social norms will help you in many ways.

On the left is a sidebar with information on behavior rules that are found in common

situations in cyberspace. Please take the time to learn them and keep them in mind as

you network and communicate with others in cyberspace.
