These questions are done in flash card style and cover a wide range of topics concerning this subject matter.

Jacksonian Democracy by UFILLITUP Software. This package is for students anywhere from the age of 5 through adult. This is a tutorial software package that is from a reputable company but is mostly just a read with pictures. There is a multimedia presentation that is about 40 minutes long.

Civilization IV by 2K Games. This is a History simulation software game that students can use to build an entire empire. This simulation covers different aspects of society, such as political, religious, and economic factors. this is an award winning program that has won many gaming and teaching awards.

Instructional Game Software
The Oregon Trail 5th Edition by Broderbund. This could be very easily confused with simulation software but shouldn't. It could also fall under the category of problem solving games. Kids will utilize decision making skills and problem solving skills when using this program. The story runs along the lines of settlers traveling west and the problems they encounter. This game works from the 3rd grade upward.

Problem Solving Games
The History Channel's Lost World's Game by History.com. This is a multifaceted game that requires problem solving skills as it teaches you history through puzzles, mazes and quizzes. It also asks you to make decisions based on what you have learned. This software rates well for grades 6 through 12. Click on the link below to watch the video.
