Title:  Civil War Wounded and Death Tolls

Content Area/Topic:   United States History Civil War

Grade Level: 8th Grade

Objectives: Students will create a spreadsheet of the losses of life and wounded for the listed Civil War battles.  Also, the students will create a bar graph of the losses on both sides of the war which will include civilian casualties.

Standards Addressed: Kentucky Combined Curriculum Development Social Studies 8th Grade SS-8-GC-S-5

Students will analyze information from a variety of print and non-print sources (e.g., books, documents, articles, interviews, Internet) to research answers to questions and explore issues

Analyze historical perspectives and events in the modern world (1500 A.D. to present) and United States (Reconstruction to present) in terms of how they have affected and been affected by cultural issues and elements.

Groups: Students will work in groups of 3

Time for Lesson: 3 days

Assessment: I will provide a Rubric for this lesson.  The assessment will be based on the accuracy of the information that the students will provide for me.  Also, the teacher will evaluate the groups on classroom performance in working in cooperative groups. The students will also be graded on the accuracy, neatness and presentation of their reports and spreadsheets.
