Musical styles and instrument construction have changed over the years providing us with a rich musical heritage and a variety of music to listen to and perform. On this tour, you will visit locations across America that are famous for musical styles related to guitar.

Learner Description: This learning activity was created for upper elementary/middle school students who are learning to play guitar.

The Places You'll Go

There are five destinations on the Guitar in America Tour. Our first stop, the Lillibridge Gallery at the National Music Musuem at the University of South Dakota, will provide an overview of guitar types as well as information about specific guitars. Next, we're off to Okemah, Oklahoma, the birthplace of folk guitarist Woody Guthrie. The third stop will be New Orleans, Louisiana, the birthplace of jazz. Then we head up north to the birthplace of the blues, Chicago. Our final stop will be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
