Vision Statement: I believe that schools need to understand the positive impact that integrating technology can have on students, teachers, and administrators. There is ample research available that emphasizes the value technology can have in our classrooms. It was concluded by the CEO Forum on Education and Technology in 2001 that "technology can have the greatest impact when integrated into the curriculum to achieve clear, measurable educational objectives." There is also research available that shows that integrating technology into the curriculum can even help improve standardized tests scores. I understand that a lot of teachers fear that they won’t have enough time to work technology into the curriculum because they need to focus their valuable time improving state test scores. For those who use that argument, they need to look at the research from an eight-year study of SAT I performance at New Hampshire's Brewster Academy (Bain & Ross, 1999). Students participating in the technology integrated school reform effort (School Design Model) demonstrated average increases of 94 points in combined SAT I performance over students who participated in the traditional school experience. Students can benefit in their learning through technology. It is something that can get a kid's attention much easier than reading pages 45-67 in their textbook and answering questions #1-5. Teachers and administrators can benefit through online grading, attendance, and curriculum programs which can take your teaching to a higher level. Another rationale for integrating technology into our schools is that technology is all around us in the real world and if we really want our students to be able to compete in a highly competitive global society; not integrating technology would be a terrible disservice. Technology is not a panacea for education, but rather it should be used as an important tool to help enhance the educational process.
