Simulations

A computerized model of a real or imagined system. The purpose of the simulation is to teach how that particular system works. The learner will usually choose the tasks to do as well as the order in which they are done. One purpose of the simulation is that students often get really involved in the activity.

The Oregon Trail 5th Edition

Students have the opportunity learn through real-life decision-making, problem-solving, and writing skills while learning the history and geography of the Westward Movement. Along the trail, they meet a fictional family and trail guide. Students learn what it was like to be a wagon train traveler and what they needed to do to reach their destinations alive. There is also the Enhanced Educator Version which includes class progress reporting that supports use in a school setting.

Students will want to play this problem-solving game. It is a great tool to motivate students to learn. The problem will end-up being having enough time to give all the students a chance to play.
