Welcome to My Portfolio!

My name is Joan Goldenstein and this portfolio is the culmination of 3 years of work in the M.E.T. program at Boise State. This program has taught me so much about using technology in the classroom and has helped me understand its importance in getting students to achieve at their highest level. In this portfolio, you will see work that I have done and how it corresponds to Association of Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) standards, a rationale paper for those artifacts, and a video about how this program has helped me grow personally and professionally.

My artifacts differ from most of the others in this class since I have taken longer to complete the program than they have and the assignments were different when I took most of the core classes. Thanks for looking at them!

Who Am I?

I have been a special education teacher for 15 years. I have taught students with behavior disorders, early intervention classes (2 year olds with various disabilities), and resource and instructional students with a variety of disabilities. I currently teach resource and instructional students at the elementary school level in Plainfield, IL, a town about 40 miles southwest of Chicago.

My family and I have lived in Plainfield for 8 years. Our oldest son starts college in the fall, so I reached my goal of completing my Master's before he began! Our other two are a sophomore in high school and an eighth grader. With the exception of two years in college, I have lived in the suburbs of Chicago all my life. As a result I am a die-hard Cubs fan, and every year hope to find that this year is next year. While I know in my heart that's not the case, hope does spring eternal, a seemingly worthwhile way to approach new beginnings that I try to carry over into other aspects of my life.
