Introduction

Animal Habitats: A Virtual Field Trip is an online field trip that visits four different animals in their natural habitats. We will visit the African Lion, the Asian Elephant, the South American Macaw, and the Australian Kangaroo. We will look for Lions in Sub-Saharan Africa, Elephants in Southeast Asia, Macaws in the rainforests of South America, and Kangaroos in the outback of Australia. Essentially, this field trip will show you the vast differences of the environments of the each of the four animals. At the end of this journey you will be able to see how each unique environment plays a special role in each one of the animals’ lives.

Instructions

On this virtual trip, you will only need the internet to travel to each special location. This page includes an interactive Google map to navigate to where the animals live. Follow the navigation links at the top of the page to explore the different animals and their environments. You can view the animals in their natural habitats through using the map, photos, videos and text located on each page. After you have viewed a page, you will use the information you have learned and the link below each question to answer the questions on the page. Check your answers with the answer key. At the end, use the information you found on the field trip, the questions and your answers to construct a poster about the habitat of one of these four animals.

Learner Description

This virtual field trip was designed for elementary school students studying different animals in their natural habitats. It can also be used by older students who are interested in learning about animal’s natural environments.
