American Revolution

Without French help, the American Revolution would probably be referred to as the American Rebellion--the colonists would have lost to the British.

The French government provided  the Americans help (at the French taxpayer's expense) like:

  • troops
  • supplies
  • weapons
  • ships

Three results of the American Revolution in France were:
  1. The French people saw a monarchy could be opposed and defeated.
  2. The French government went into debt to help the Americans defeat the British.
  3. The French people, especially soldiers who fought in America, were introduced to the ideals of liberty.
