LBD
GOALS
The goals of the
Learning by Doing Theory of Instructional Design is for
students to simultaneously learn factual information and
develop problem solving skills while working through Goal
Based Scenarios (GBS). In this way, Goal Based Scenarios
strive to teach students content knowledge while working
through relevant tasks.
A common thought process used during the problem solving of
GBS is Case Based Reasoning (CBR). CBR requires the use of
thinking across past experiences in order to solve future
problems. Built into case based reasoning is the
expectation that the first method of problem solving may
not work, and will require revision or replacement of the
primary strategy.
