The Compound Microscope


Did you know that cells would never have been discovered without the invention of the microscope? The microscope allows you to see objects that are too small for the naked eye. When viewed through a microscope, small objects become magnified.

The picture shows a microscope similar to one that you will use in class. To view an object, place a microscope slide onto the stage. Use the course adjustment to bring the specimen into view (it will be blurry). Next, use the fine adjustment to bring the specimen into clear sharp focus.
